چکیده
Abstract. Evidence for sea-level change during and around Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 5e (ca. 125 ka) in southern Africa derives from a wide variety of geomorphic sedimentological indicators, supported the past 2 decades by absolute chronological control, particularly on littoral deposits, some which have quantifiable relationship to former sea level. In addition these proxies, data provided both terrestrial (dune sediments archaeological remains) marine (lagoonal nearshore sediments) limiting points provide broad constraints Here, we review publications describing such points. Using framework World Atlas Last Interglacial Shorelines, insert standardized database (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.4459297, Cooper Green, 2020) all elements available assess palaeo-relative level (palaeo-RSL) associated with them (including uncertainties). Overall, reviewed 71 studies, extracted 39 indicators 26 As far as age attribution is concerned, early analysis molluscs whole-rock beachrock samples using U series allowed dating several 1980s, but more widespread application optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) since 2004 has yielded many (and accurate) sites. This helped resolve nature timing MIS shorelines potential further elucidate apparent presence two or peaks at South African sites this interval. The presented paper first its kind region. Future research should be directed improve stratigraphic description last interglacial obtain better dating, high-accuracy elevation measurements palaeo-RSL interpretation.

Southern Africa ports as spaces of HIV vulnerability: case studies from South Africa and Namibia.
There is increasing recognition that in order to respond to the HIV epidemic migrants and mobile populations must be included in national and regional responses. While migration in and of itself does not necessarily contribute to increased risk of HIV infection, some migrants and mobile populations do face increased HIV risk. With its immense coastline and extensive transport industry, Southern...
متن کاملMigration, AIDS, and Urban Food Security in Southern and Eastern Africa: Case Studies in Namibia, South Africa, and Ethiopia
Introduction M igration, AIDS epidemics, and urban food security, interact in complex ways that are little researched and understood in the Southern and Eastern African context. To date, research on urban food security has been concerned with urban systems of acquisition and production, with an emphasis on the informal sector and more recently on urban agriculture. Much less attention has been ...
متن کاملPleistocene sea-level fluctuations and human evolution on the southern coastal plain of South Africa
Humans evolved in Africa, but where and how remain unclear. Here it is proposed that the southern coastal plain (SCP) of South Africa may have served as a geographical point of origin through periodic expansion and contraction (isolation) in response to glacial/interglacial changes in sea level and climate. During Pleistocene interglacial highstands when sea level was above 75 m human populatio...
متن کاملCapital Accumulation and Unemployment in Namibia, Nigeria, and South Africa
The research investigates the causes of unemployment in Namibia, Nigeria and South Africa and the role of Capital Accumulation in reducing the unemployment profile of these economies as proposed by the post-Keynesian economics. This is conducted through extensive review of literature on the NAIRU models and focused on the post-Keynesian view of unemployment within the NAIRU framework. The NAIRU...

south-western coast of Africa, from southern Angola (15°S) to Cape Agulhas (35°S; Fig. 1). Ecologically, it is split into separate northern and southern subsystems by a zone of intense perennial upwelling near Lüderitz (26–27.5°S; Shannon 1985). As is characteristic of upwelling ecosystems, the Benguela is highly productive and supports abundant populations of plankton-feeding clupeoids, includ...
